Current research activities include principle investigation on the SSHRC-funded project, "Proper Housing and the Valued Family: A Cross National Study." The study explores historical change in what sort of housing becomes considered appropriate for families to live in. Quantitative historical data will be matched to contemporary life course data, obtained through surveys and qualitative interviews across three countries: Canada, Sweden, and the United States. The study will ultimately attempt to link housing concerns and declines in access to proper housing to declines in fertility and other widespread cultural changes in the family. Other research activities include a co-investigator role on the SSHRC-funded study, "'Iglurjuaq' in transition: An historical analysis of Inuit housing policy." Together with Pascaline Nsekera, Nathan Lauster co-founded the Illustrated Journey Project, an attempt to bring refugee youth together with comic book artists to help them tell their stories about the journey to Canada.
