Welcome to the Department of Sociology at UBC, a leading Canadian centre for sociological research with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students. UBC Sociology is presently home to Sociological Theory, one of the journals of the American Sociological Association, and we have on our faculty two recent winners of the ASA’s “Best Dissertation” prize. Professors in the department regularly publish in such journals as American Sociological Review, Canadian Review of Sociology, Demography, Gender & Society, Journal of Marriage & Family, Social Forces, Social Problems, Social Psychology Quarterly, Social Science & Medicine, Sociological Theory, Theory & Society, Theory, Culture & Society and Work & Occupations. Faculty research is also published by leading university presses like Chicago, Cornell, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Oxford, Stanford, and Toronto. The Department of Sociology is host to the following Journals:
- Sociological Theory, a journal of the American Sociological Association (Editor: Neil Gross);
- Journal of Comparative Family Studies, the leading journal exclusively specializing in cross-cultural family studies (Editor: Jim White); and
- Sojourners: Undergraduate Journal of Sociology (2012/2013 Editor-in-Chief Laurel Rogers).
